Humanities
Humanities at Great Denham includes the following areas of the National Curriculum; Geography, History, R.E and Languages. Our Humanities team is led by Miss Little( History) and also includes Mrs Baker ( R.E), Mrs Rose ( Spanish) and Mr Hay ( Geography).
Geography and History are taught through our project curriculum and in each project. There are 3 projects a year, one with a significant focus on History and another on Geography. However, both subjects are taught in all projects.
R.E. is taught using the Bedford Borough agreed syllabus for R.E. This is usually taught discretely either in weekly lessons or in a block of learning. Sometimes it is taught through a project if appropriate.
At Great Denham, children start to learn to speak Spanish in Year 3. They build upon their skills throughout Key Stage 2 until they leave us in Year 6. In the summer term in Year 6, we also introduce our children to French in order to support their transition to secondary school. Children who show a particular flair for languages also have the opportunity to learn Italian with an external teacher. Spanish is taught through a range of games and interactive ways.
