Were They Hard Times?

Lower Key Stage 2 children put on their own Victorian Exhibition at Cecil Higgins Museum. They learnt about and made replica artefacts, worked with the museum curator to establish what makes a good exhibition and were delighted at the number of parents and members of the public who attended the exhibition.

In Upper Key Stage 2 this project began with the delivery of a package wrapped in brown paper for each child in Key Stage 2. The package contained the book Street Child. Classrooms reflected the Victorian period. Clues lead the children to discover that the first Barnardo’s home was opened in 1870. The children decided they wanted to help support Barnardo’s and homeless people today. They produced their own magazine showcasing their learning about the Victorian Era. What better place to sell the magazine than at the Victorian Fayre in Bedford town centre. All money raised was then taken to the Barnardo’s shop in Great Denham.
